The history of our department began with a clear vision to prepare future educators for the growing influence of technology in education. Originally established as Computer Education under the Department of Industrial Technology Education in the Faculty of Education, University of Uyo, the programme focused on equipping students with the knowledge and practical computing skills needed for teaching, learning and the effective use of digital technologies in schools and other learning environments.

As technology continued to shape education, business and everyday life, the programme also evolved. Beyond developing competent computer educators, the curriculum gradually expanded to include software development, networking, information technology, hardware engineering, robotics and other computing disciplines that would better prepare graduates for today's digital world. This steady growth reflected both the changing needs of society and the department's commitment to providing relevant, quality education.

In 2024, the programme entered a significant new chapter with its transition into the Department of Computer and Robotics Education, operating under the Department of Vocational Education, Library and Information Science (VELISA). The change represented more than a new name. It acknowledged the department's broader academic scope while creating opportunities to introduce students to emerging areas such as robotics, intelligent systems and artificial intelligence as these fields continue to develop within the programme.

Today, the department offers students a balanced learning experience that combines sound theoretical knowledge with practical application. Through coursework, laboratory sessions, projects and collaborative learning, students develop valuable skills in software development, computer networking, educational technology, information systems and other core areas of computing. At the same time, they gain awareness of emerging technologies that are expected to play an increasingly important role in the future of education and industry.

CRESA — Computer and Robotics Education Students Association — complements this academic journey by providing a vibrant community where students learn beyond the classroom. Through academic activities, seminars, workshops, social events and peer collaboration, the association encourages leadership, teamwork, professional development and a strong sense of belonging among its members.

From its beginnings as a Computer Education programme to its growth into the Department of Computer and Robotics Education, the department's story reflects continuous progress, resilience and a commitment to academic excellence. As technology continues to evolve, the department remains dedicated to preparing graduates with the knowledge, skills and adaptability needed to contribute meaningfully to education, technology and national development.
